HESSTON —

Graduating sophomores were recognized with awards for their academic achievements during Hesston College’s annual Larkfest during Commencement Weekend. The May 2 event was at Hesston Mennonite Church.

Seventeen students were named to the dean’s list. The dean’s list recognizes graduating sophomores who achieved a cumulative 3.9 to 4.0 grade point average based upon the completion of a minimum of three semesters and 30 credit hours at Hesston College. The list included Heidi Boese of Hesston; Diedre Funk of Hillsboro; Sheldon Goerzen of Newton; Kaely Miller of Newton; Rhonda Miller of Hesston; Shawn Nolt of Hesston and Dalton, Ohio; and Katrina Zerger of Moundridge.

Heidi Boese of Hesston and Diedre Funk of Hillsboro were among four graduating sophomores who received the Hesston College Business Department Award. To qualify for the business award, a student must maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average; take financial accounting, management and an economics course; and take at least nine additional hours of business department courses. The business department selects the top students among all who meet the qualifications. The winners received a one-year subscription to Business Week magazine, and their names were added to the Business Award plaque.

Recipients of the Clayton V. Beyler Bible Department Award exemplify dedication to high academics and to the church. The award was given to Kaely Miller of Newton and Travis Riesen of Hillsboro. The recipients received copies of The IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament and The IVP Bible Background Commentary: New Testament.
