NEWTON —
Laurel Dee Gugler (formerly DeLores Goering, daughter of the late Daniel W. and Erma E. Goering) will read and tell stories from her latest children’s novel, “A Piece of Forever.”
The reading and book signing will take place at 6:30 p.m. July 16 at Faith & Life Bookstore, 724 N. Main St. in Newton. The presentation is suitable for adults and for children 8 years and older. “A Piece of Forever” invites children and their parents to consider the possibility of looking at conflicts and their solutions in some other terms than war. This junior novel features 10-year-old, Rose, who must examine her own beliefs about war. She does a school project about the bomb on Hiroshima, including the true story of a young girl, Sadako, who died of radiation sickness 10 years after the bomb. As her school’s Veterans Day assembly draws near, Rose struggles with what it means to be brave.“A Piece of Forever” is a sequel to Laurel’s earlier title, “Catching Forever.”
