NEWTON —

The Sound of the Heartland Chorus is putting out the welcome mat for all women who would like to be a part of a performance with this award-winning a capella chorus.

Under the direction of Master Director LaDonna Cheatham, guests will be sharing the stage with the current first-place winner of Division A and third-place winner overall in Region 7.

Staring July 7, guest will be learning songs, receiving vocal instruction and learning about barbershop-style, four-part harmony. The rehearsals will be at 7 p.m. Thursday nights — July 9, July 16, July 23 and July 30 — at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, 12th Street and Boyd.

There are openings still available for this chance to sing with Sound of the Heartland Chorus. Members of the chorus will hand out flyers to women in central Kansas.

“Chorus members have so much fun performing, making new friends and improving their vocal skills that they want to spread word about this fantastic chorus and organization,” a Heartland Chorus news release stated.

“This is a fun-relaxed way for women to perform for an audience,” said Sue Moore, POP concert coordinator for the chorus, in a news release. “Many of us, once we get out of school, have no opportunity to enjoy the thrill of performing. We want to share that with as many women as we can. It is a special feeling to hear that applause and know that our friends, family and others are there to watch us.”

The chorus is looking for guest performers from Newton and the surrounding areas. Women singers of all ages are invited to take part. They can attend any rehearsal and learn more.
