King receives military honor

Army Sgt. 1st Class Daniel A. King has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.

The medal is awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Army, have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.

King is a drill sergeant at Fort Sill, Okla. He has been in the Army for nine years.

He is the son of Cathy M. Funk of Newton.

He is a 2001 graduate of Marion High School.
