NEWTON —

Since 2002, Coca-Cola Enterprises has awarded 800 college scholarships to deserving children of its employees.

This year, the company continues the tradition by awarding Chelsea Gronau a $5,000 scholarship and naming her as a member of its CCE Johnston Legacy Scholarship Program.

Gronau is a 2009 graduate of Newton High School, where she was a three-year letterman of the school’s basketball and volleyball teams. She also was a member of the Do-Crew pep club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Health Occupation Students of America, as well as a volunteer with the Bigs in School program and Circle of Friends. She plans to attend The University of Kansas in the fall.

Her father, Larry Gronau, works as a Club Coca-Cola sales manager at the Lenexa Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and represents one out of 100 employees whose child was selected as a scholarship recipient this year.

“Not only does this scholarship help students reach their goals of higher education, it also shows CCE’s commitment to corporate responsibility and sustainability,” said Kevin Shea, sales center manager, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. “We are especially grateful to be able to offer this opportunity to the children of our employees in our local community.”
