NEWTON —

The Kansas Christian Home Auxiliary Holiday Bazaar will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, First and Main streets in Newton.

Proceeds from the sale go to Kansas Christian Home Auxiliary to purchase items for Kansas Christian Home. During the years, the auxiliary has purchased about $150,000 worth of items for KCH, including beds, wheelchairs and furniture in the lobby.

For sale during the bazaar will be a variety of items, including Christmas items, gifts, jewelry, toys, baby items, kitchen items and linens, pillows, quilts, afghans and baked goods, including peppernuts.

For sale also will be decorative plates by Dortha Meireis and handmade jewelry crafted by Veneda Wood.

A drawing for a colored pencil painting titled “Park Pony” is being donated by artist Carrie Lewis. The piece of artwork will be given away during a donation drawing. Suggested donation for tickets is $1 each or six for $5. The drawing will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. The winner need not be present to win.

“Park Pony” was chosen by a representative of the Kansas Christian Home Auxiliary for their 2009 holiday bazaar.

The auxiliary traditionally has had a donation drawing for a hand-made quilt, and those quilts became favorites among bazaar shoppers. With no quilt available this year, organizers were in search of something large enough to make a good raffle item. Enter “Park Pony.”

“I'm always glad to use my talents to benefit organizations I believe in,” Lewis said in a news release. “Kansas Christian Home is such an organization. I am delighted they selected ‘Park Pony’ for the raffle.”

As part of the bazaar, breakfast and lunch will be served. Breakfast will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. with biscuits and sausage gravy, cinnamon rolls, jumbo muffins and biscuits for sale. Lunch will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On the menu is chili, sloppy joes, ham and cheese sandwiches, homemade chicken noodle soup and pie. Drinks also will be for sale, including coffee, hot chocolate, milk, orange juice, iced tea and pop.
