Ten Thousand Villages Newton announced winners in the Chicken Art Contest.

“We’re excited to announce the winners in our first ever Chicken Art Contest,” said Pandea Smith, store manager of Ten Thousand Villages Newton. “We had a lot of fun with this event which combined a handcrafted Fair Trade item and local creative talent.”

In the youth division, the first place winner was “Heather” by Moira Dewey, second place was “Lazy Chicken” by Zora Jenney, and third place was “Sparkle” by Halle Krehbiel.

In the adult division, the first-place winner was “Eggnetha and Her Two Young Chicks” by Marie and Martha Voth, second place was “Pollo Fantastico” by Laurel King, and third place was “Rooster Longboat” by Damon Bump. The Best of Show winner was “Wake the World” by Anna Jenney.

Contestants were required to purchase the Nicaraguan terra cotta rooster candleholder, and then they were given free reign to make whatever piece of art they desired. The call for entries drew 24 individual participants in the contest.
