Producers interested in applying for the Variable Rate Irrigation and related conservation practices need to sign up by July 17 at their local Natural Resources Conservation Service field office.

Financial assistance is available through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program to producers with approved applications.

The NRCS and the Kansas Livestock Association Environmental Services Inc. will participate in a partnership effort through the Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative to deliver this project to producers with Combined Animal Feeding Operations to protect surface water.

VRI allows for defined zones of a center pivot irrigation sprinkler to be turned off as it passes over an environmental area and then continue applying waste water once those nozzles are clear of the area.

For more information, go to the office at 1405 S. Spencer St. in Newton; call 283-0370; or go to www.ks.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/ccpi.
