NORTH NEWTON —
Bethel College Interim President John Sheriff announced the appointment of Allen R. Wedel, Newton, as the college’s interim vice president for business affairs, beginning Nov. 2. Wedel’s term as interim vice president will coincide with that of Sheriff’s term or be extended as determined by the incoming president.
“I look forward to the opportunity to use my expertise in new ways and to give back to the college I hold so dear,” Wedel said. Wedel has a B.A. in economics and business administration from Bethel College and a master’s of business administration from Wichita State University. Wedel most recently was general accounting manager for AGCO Corp. in Hesston, having served in that position for nearly 30 years. Wedel also serves on the Newton Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Newton Community Foundation and Trinity Heights United Methodist Church Foundation Board and has taught accounting courses as an adjunct professor at Bethel College. “In light of our current situation, it was imperative that we find someone with the right skills to begin working alongside administration immediately,” Sheriff said. “Allen brings the expertise in the field and the appreciation for Bethel’s role in the lives of today’s youth needed to make an immediate impact.” Wedel replaces Laurie Tietjen, who resigned this past spring, and Gregg Dick in the interim. “I would like to thank Gregg for his very effective work in the interim role,” Sheriff said. “Gregg preferred to return to the chief financial officer/controller role, as he will now do.” Bethel College is a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with Mennonite Church USA.
