I love phenylethylamine! That must be it. There’s some good reason why I crave chocolate, right? I’ve got a book right here in front of me that says chocolate is a health food! OK, “almost” a health food. I have a friend who even claims chocolate is a vegetable because it’s made from a bean.
Dr. John Ashton and Suzy Ashton, authors of “A Chocolate a Day Keeps the Doctor Away,” say chocolate is full of antioxidants and is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. A small bite or two of antioxidant-rich, vitamin and mineral packed goodness a day has been prescribed! I must comply.
This Valentine’s Day, chocolate’s on my mind, my taste buds and my table! It’s been a good day! Just to make it even better, maybe I’ll check out “Like Water for Chocolate” to watch tonight. Or, maybe I’ll whip up some Double Chocolate Brownies from “The Ghirardelli Chocolate Cookbook.”
Then, when tomorrow rolls around, (or is it “when I roll into tomorrow?”), I’ll think about whether to check out “Choose to Lose,” the new weight-loss book by Chris Powell.
Susan Bartel is the Supervisor of Special Services at Newton Public Library. She likes to say this means her job consists of "other duties as assigned". In reality, a large portion of what she does involves marketing and publicity, updating the website, facilitating various computer classes and interests groups (genealogy and photography in particular), managing overdue items, and quite an array of "other duties as assigned".
