Many fields of wheat have begun to take on a yellowish cast over the past few weeks.
There are several factors that can cause this:
In our area, the likely cause of yellowing is due to cold temperature injury. The symptoms being, most plants are showing the burning on upper leaves and leaf tips, the symptoms are in large areas of the fields and are showing up on the earlier planted wheat. With that said, however, I have seen some fields affected with barley yellow dwarf disease.
If you have a field you would like to evaluate, email me to receive the recent KSU Agronomy update which lists steps to identify damage. Or stop in to receive a handout. My email is jjames@ksu.edu.
