The Central Kansas Community Foundation, on behalf the Central Kansas Kids FUNd distributed $42,265 to charities in Central Kansas Thursday (April 23, 2015). These grants are made possible by the Central Kansas Kids FUNd, which was established to fund local charities focused on improving the lives of children in our communities.

Angie Baur, Executive Director of the Central Kansas Community Foundation said the Central Kansas Kids FUNd has been providing grants since 2005.

“With the grants this year the Kids FUNd has given more than $200,000 to charities serving our children.” Baur said. “The CKCF Board of Trustees recently revised our mission statement — Building Stronger Communities through Charitable Giving — as we celebrate 20 years of service to the community.”

Proceeds from the L. Marie Haun Charitable Fund for Children provided the majority of grants this year. Haun had clear intentions related to her legacy supporting children’s behavioral research, child welfare, teaching parent skills and strengthening families. The Kansas Health Foundation Public Health Fund provided $8,888 in grants to charities through the 2015 Kids FUNd cycle to serve health needs of local children. Programs funded this year span across communities such as Newton, Andover, Hillsboro, El Dorado Halstead, and Wichita.

While the Community Foundation tries to match donors to such requests, contributions are needed.

“There continues to be an opportunity in our community for local residents to consider establishing a fund or making an unrestricted gift to the community foundation,” Baur said.
