WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts hit win no. 70 Friday, stopping the Laredo Lemurs 10-5 in American Association play at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
With three games remaining, the Wingnuts are 70-27, the first time in league history a team has won 70 games. Laredo falls to 58-39. Both teams have clinched playoff spots for next week.
Wichita led 7-4 through six innings, adding three more runs in the eighth.
Victor Diaz drove in three runs for the Wingnuts. Jake Luce went two for four hitting with two RBIs. Taylor Oldham and Chris McClendon each drove in a run.
For Laredo, John Alonzo went two for four hitting with a home run and three RBIs. Nick Van Stratten went two for four. J.P. Ramirez went two for five with an RBI. Travis Denker also drove in a run.
Jason Van Skike (12-5) went 5 1-3 innings for the win, allowing four runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Daniel Bennett, Michael Zouzalik, Chris Peacock and Matthew Robertson finished the game.
Tyler Pearson (7-8) took the loss for the Lemurs, hampered by 10 walks in five innings.
The two teams play again at 7:05 p.m. today.
