GOESSEL — The Goessel High School cross country team will have a new coach for the 2014 season.
Brian Lightner, a 2006 Tabor College grad, will lead the Bluebirds. Lightner inherits a girls' team that placed fifth at state last year and a boys' team that had a state qualifier.
"The 2014 cross country team is looking to build on a previous season where the girls' team qualified for the state meet and placed fifth," Lightner said. "Graduation and foreign exchange students made up most of that team but Jennifer Meysing returns to lead a good group of underclassmen. Although the boys didn’t have any state qualifiers (return), Aaron Woelk and Zach Wiens return to lead the group. Twelve runners are out for us and with four boys and eight girls. As a first year coach, I am looking forward to getting to know the kids and exciting to watch them improve throughout the season."
