This month Newton Medical Center, along with the rest of the country, celebrates National Nurses’ Week. In honor of this event, I would like to encourage support for our Sandra Qamar Nursing Scholarship. The endowment was established to provide financial assistance for students who want to become nurses and, we hope, work at our hospital.
Healthcare services are predicted to increase during the next 10 years as baby boomers retire. Unfortunately at the same time, many of those retiring will be nurses, which create the potential for a significant shortage. Supporting programs like our scholarship will help assure someone will be ready to step in and fill the shoes of our nurses who will be leaving.
Finally, what better way to honor a nurse who has helped you or your family recover during a healthcare event than making a donation to the Sandra Qamar Nursing Scholarship in his or her name during National Nurses’ Week.
