WICHITA — A string of five straight trips to the NAIA National Tennis Championships may have come to an end for the Bethel College women's tennis team after a 5-1 loss to McPherson College Saturday in the finals of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament in Wichita.

Bethel opened the day with a 5-0 win over Ottawa in the semifinals.

Bethel was one of the few teams to consistently reach national play with an entire roster of in-state players.

McPherson, which wins both the conference title and post-season tournament title, has just two in-state players, only one of which played. The majority of the team is from California, along with a player from Texas and a player from Germany.

Steph Shogren, who was earlier named NAIA national player of the week, claimed the sole win for the Threshers, claiming a three-set win at second singles. Shogren is the sole senior for the Threshers.

She ends the season 15-5 in singles and 15-6 in doubles with Bree Honer. Honer ended the season 15-5 in singles.

Allie Hipp finished the season 12-7 in singles. Madelyn Weaver finished the season 12-6 in singles. Hipp and Weaver finished the year 12-7 in doubles.

Ashley Suhr finished the season 10-3 in singles. Alyssa Scheuerman finished the season 11-7 in singles. Scheuerman and Rachel Shogren went 10-3 in doubles.

McPherson enters nationals 17-6. Bethel ends the season 10-5, with two of the losses coming from McPherson.

The Bethel men ended the season Friday with a 5-4 loss to McPherson in the KCAC post-season tournament semifinals in Wichita.

For the Bethel men, Logan Palenske finished the season 16-4 in singles. Chis Soosalu finished 14-5 in singles. Palenske and Soosalu finished 17-2 at doubles.

Clinton Chlumsky finished 13-5 in singles. Jesse Voth-Gaeddert finished 13-6 in singles. Chlumsky and Voth-Gaddert finished 13-3 in doubles.

Jenson Kingsley finished 11-5 in singles. Davian Lightbourne finished 5-4 in singles. Kingsley and Brooks Taylor finished 5-6 in doubles.

McPherson then fell to Bethany 5-3 in the finals. Bethel ends the season 10-3, the best showing for the Threshers in years.

The Bethel men lose three seniors — Clinton Chlumsky, Kristopher Dubach and Wesley Goodrich.
