  • Harvey County has cause to be proud of the retirement centers located within its borders.
The first piece of evidence was rankings by U.S. News and World Report earlier this year, with each of the area facilities grabbing a three star or higher ranking. We heard the snide comments by those who don't agree. That's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
There is also the wonderful facility nearing completion at Asbury Park and the expansion of Bluestem in Hesston. More reason to be proud.
Last week came yet another reason to be proud. Bluestem communities was selected to create and administrated a PACE program by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services.
But not just any PACE region. The largest region, geographically, in the state and one of the largest in the nation.
The program is designed to holistic, paying for services and items designed to keep people in their homes that may not have traditionally paid for with Medicaid or Medicare funds. Keeping people in their homes is more cost effective, and PACE is designed to make that real.
So puff out you chest a little, Harvey County. Our retirement communities are reason to be proud.
