  • Bethel softball team splits with McPherson

  • McPHERSON — The Bethel College softball team snapped a 12-game losing streak during a twinbill split Tuesday at McPherson College.
    Bethel won the first game 9-0 and lost the second game 8-2.
    Bethel wins its first conference game of the season and is 4-19 overall, 1-7 in KCAC play. McPherson is 11-16, 4-6 in KCAC play.
    The first game was called after six innings on the eight-run rule. Bethel scored four runs in the second inning, two in the fourth and three in the sixth inning.
    McKenzie King picked up her first win of the season pitching, allowing two hits with six walks and six strikeouts.
    Victoria Roberts was two for four hitting with two RBIs. King was two for four. Kylee Gragg was three for four. Aida Martinez hit a home run and drove in two runs. Marah Ekart and Kaylen Fike each added an RBI. Everyone in the Bethel line-up had at least one hit.
    Jenna Kaiser took the loss for McPherson, allowing three earned runs on 13 hits with a walk and four strikeouts. The Bulldog defense had seven errors.
    In the second game, McPherson led 3-2 after the first inning and added five runs in the fifth.
    Mary Sheridan posted the Threshers runs with a two-run home run. Sheridan finished two for three. Martinez also went two for three. Gragg went three for four. Ekart was two for four.
    For McPherson, Ariel McGee was three for four hitting with two RBIs. McGee hit a home run. Mariah Wedel went two for four with an RBI. Cassandra Moreno had two RBIs.
    Bethel outhit McPherson 10-7.
    King took the loss for Bethel, allowing three earned runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Britani Shrum finished the game, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
    Kaila Atkinson pitched the win for McPherson, allowing two runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts.
    Bethel returns home at 1 p.m. Saturday to host Friends at Kelsch Field.
