Newton police responded to a 911 call of a burglary in progress Wednesday at 801 E. Seventh.

Responding to a call by a neighbor, police spotted individuals trying to crawl into the wind of the home and detained the suspects at gun point. Police contacted the resident of the home and learned the would-be burglars had permission to be at the house.

Suspects were released and no one charged.

"This was good citizens doing what they should do, keeping an eye on a neighbor's property," said Eric Murphy, deputy chief of police. "We would rather get the call and it not be serous than not get the call."
