HAYS — The Halstead Dragons had a wrestler reach the semifinals of the Class 3-2-1A state tournament Friday in Hays.
After the first day of competition, Norton leads with 74 points, followed by Rossville with 70, Hoisington with 51, Beloit with 47 and Phillipsburg with 45.
Halstead is the sole area team scoring with eight points, tied for 36th.
At 152 pounds, Halstead's Petter Ekroll claimed a 7-4 first-round decision over Cody Delk of Hillsboro. In the quarterfinals, Ekroll pinned Chase Ridder of Rock Creek in 1:32. In the semifinals, Ekroll was pinned by Tagen Lambotte of Rossville in 4:04.
Ekroll, 31-7, will compete today in the consolation semifinals and has clinched a medal.
At 126 pounds, Adan Andrade lost by forfeit to Macrae Migchelbrink of Rawlins County in the first round.
For Hesston, Mason Schweitzer at 126 pounds dropped a 3-2 decision to Riley Juenemann of Phillipsburg in the first round. In the first consolation round,
At 132 pounds, Tommy Jenkins was pinned by Casey Garner of Leon-Bluestem in 4:30.
At 220 pounds, Juan Guzman was pinned by Jesse Correll of Rock Creek in 1:33.
Remington's sole wrestler, Zach Thornburg at 138 pounds lost in the first round to Willy Dieckermann of Atchinson County 2-0.
Andrade, Schweitzer, Jenkins, Guzman and Thornberg all compete today in the first consolation round.
