fall to Sterling

A cold-shooting first half led to an 86-71 loss to Sterling College Wednesday in KCAC play at Thresher Gym.

Bethel hit just seven of 32 from the field in the first half, falling behind 40-19 at intermission. Bethel managed to win the second half, but still lost the game by 15.

Bethel was outscored 42-24 from the free throw line, 18-4 in the first half. Bethel was called for 32 fouls to 23 for Sterling. Bethel outscored Sterling 47-44 from the field.

Sterling, 8-13 overall and 4-7 in KCAC play, was led by Hailey Davis with 24 points and Allie Faul with 20. Lori Dauer scored 15 points with 17 rebounds. Kelsey Strobel scored 13 points.

Bethel was led by Samantha Wilkerson with 17 points, a career best. Brianna Zerger scored 11 points and April Harpe added 10.

Bethel falls to 10-11, 4-7 in KCAC play. The two teams split the regular season series. Bethel plays at 5 p.m. Saturday at Tabor.

The Bethel College men's basketball team had one of its better days from the field, but 3-point shooting and free throws proved to be the difference in an 85-78 loss to Sterling College Wednesday in KCAC play at Thresher Gym.

Bethel hit 29 of 57 from the field for 50.9 percent. The Threshers went 14 of 24 in the second half for 58.3 percent.

Sterling was 27 of 61 from the field, but outscored Bethel 30-12 from 3-point range and 21-16 from the free throw line.

Sterling led 36-35 at the half.

Braden Thompson scored 32 points for Sterling, 17-5 overall and 9-2 in KCAC play. Darius Alexander scored 22 points and Eddie Adesodun added 18 points.

Freshman Kent Packard scored a season-high 20 points for the Threshers. Terrance Jones scored 13 points and Jenson Kingsley added 11 points.

Bethel is 0-21, 0-11 in KCAC play. The Threshers play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Tabor.

HESSTON The Hesston College women's basketball team put four players in double figures in scoring to down Fort Scott Community College 79-53 Wednesday in NJCAA Division II, Region VI play at Yost Center.

Hesston hit 30 of 59 from the field for 50.8 percent, 14 of 25 in the second half for 56 percent. Fort Scott finished the game 18 of 56 from the field for 32.1 percent.

Hesston led 39-22 at the half.

Makayla Ladwig led Hesston with 17 points. Nikki Lowry scored 14 points with 13 rebounds. Bethany Snow and Sydni Carter each scored 10 points.

Fort Scott, 8-14 overall and 0-3 in Region VI play, was led by Emily Feldman with 10 points.

Hesston is 12-10, 2-1 in Region VI play. Hesston plays at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kansas City, Kan., Community College.

HESSTON A Malcolm Mann jumper with three seconds left in the second overtime led the Hesston College men's basketball team over Fort Scott Community College 81-79 Wednesday in NJCAA Division II, Region VI play at Yost Center.

Hesston trailed 38-32 at the half. A Mabor Gabriel jumper for the Greyhounds with 47 seconds left in regulation sent the game into overtime. Fort Scott's Kevin House hit two free throws with 11 seconds left in the first overtime to keep the game tied.

Hesston was led by Darrion Martin with 23 points, followed by Jordan Tanner and Mason Davis with 16 points each. Mann finished with 13 points.

Gabriel led Fort Scott, 7-14 overall and 1-2 in Region VI play, with 21 points. House scored 20 points, followed by Will Harrington with 13 and C.J. Hall with 11.

Hesston is 6-15, 1-2 in Region VI play. The Larks play at 4 p.m. Saturday at Kansas City, Kan., Community College.
