Hesston 81, Rhema BC 70

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. The Hesston College men's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak by stopping Rhema Bible College 81-70 Monday in Broken Arrow, Okla.

Hesston trailed 45-37 at the half, but hit 14 of 27 from the field in the second half, holding Rhema to nine of 41 shooting.

Jordan Tanner led Hesston with 28 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots. Darrion Martin scored 16 points with 10 rebounds. Malcolm Mann scored 12 points.

Rhema was led by Alex Desir with 15 points. John Reis scored 14 points with 10 rebounds. Jarrett Watson scored 14 points and John Leonard scored 11.

Hesston is 5-15 and hosts Fort Scott Community College at 8 p.m. today in NJCAA Division II, Region VI play.

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. The Hesston College women's basketball team claimed a 56-46 road win over Rhema Bible College Monday in Broken Arrow.

Hesston led 34-28 at the half and held Rhema to 18 points in the second half.

Makayla Ladwig led Hesston with 14 points. Nikkita Lester added 10 points. Bethany Snow had 10 rebounds.

Rhema, 8-9, was led by Jamie Davis with 14 points and Kaitlin Byrd with 11.

Hesston is 11-10 and hosts Fort Scott Community College at 6 p.m. today.

The Newton High School freshman boys' basketball team rallied from an early deficit to down Valley Center 52-47 in overtime Tuesday at Ravenscroft Gym.

Newton trailed 18-5 after the first quarter but got back within four at the half, 28-24. Both teams missed chances to win the game in regulation. Newton scored a pair of quick baskets in overtime, then hit free throws to hold off the Hornets.

Newton plays Tuesday at Maize.
