EMPORIA — The Newton Wrestling Club claimed five winners and 19 other place winners Sunday at the Gene White Memorial Tournament in Emporia.
Winning their age and weight classes were Grant Treaster, Karston Wall, Nick Treaster, Colin Bybee and Jacob Brunner.
"The kids had a good day and we had nearly half our boys place in the top two in their respective brackets," Newton club coach Matt Treaster said. "Grant had a solid day with a fall and two technical falls. Colin Bybee claimed five wins with one of them coming in a very tough overtime match. I was very proud of our young men."
Second-place finishes went to Kolby Clanton, Josh Edson, Gavin Cusick, Brian Cusick and Kaden Davis. Taking third were Wyatt Mayes, James Johnson, Sawyer Mock, Trevor Waldrop, Colby Beer, Sid Simmons and Gaige Llamas. Fourth-place finishes went to Jensen Livesay, Ben Moses, Colton Waltner, Jonah Remsberg, Micheal Neufeld and Keon Edwards. Brady Moses took fifth. Jett Brackeen also competed.
Newton competes this weekend at the Derby Tournament. The open section competes Saturday and the novice division wrestles Sunday.
