  • Newton Medical Center will open a new diabetes and endocrinology clinic on its campus on Dec. 2.
Newton Diabetes and Endocrinology Specialists will be at 700 Medical Center Dr., Suite 140, and Jan M. Hoffman, MD, will be the endocrinologist at the clinic.
Hoffman will treat patients with diabetes, thyroid disease including ultrasound and biopsy of thyroid nodules, adrenal, pituitary and parathyroid problems, polycystic ovary syndrome, high cholesterol, low testosterone and obesity.
"I decided to go into medicine for the ability to help people," Hoffman said. "Practicing endocrinology allows me to see interventions that frequently work relatively quickly to give patients relief from their problems."
Born in Bronx, N.Y., and raised in Los Angeles, Calif., and Madrid, Spain, Hoffman earned his bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of California Los Angeles and his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He spent his internal medicine internship, residency and endocrinology fellowship at LAC+USC Medical Center.
Hoffman is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American Diabetes Association, Docs 4 Patient Care and Best Doctors, a prestigious, peer-reviewed group that includes the top 5 percent of U.S. physicians. He has been a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine since 1994 and has been involved in numerous research studies and clinical trials.
