Whitestone Mennonite Church in Hesston will host a Christmas celebration at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
For 25 years Richard and Karen Crowson have been performing in Wichita area bluegrass and folk music groups. Now, along with 3 other veteran musicians, they present a Christmas show that lifts up the joy of this Holy Season with toe-tapping American bluegrass music. It's a unique program of traditional favorites and a sprinkling of original tunes, all performed in a mountain string band style.
They feature one of the stars of The Appalachian Christmas Quartet, Rob Loren on fiddle, mandolin and hammer dulcimer.
Dennis Hardin, one of Wichita's most in-demand guitarists, performs on mandolin as well as guitar.
Phil Burress plays the big acoustic bass. Phil's credentials include 20 years of performing in Wichita and in New Orleans roots music groups.
Karen and Richard Crowson have performed monthly at Watermark books for 13 straight years. They have toured Kansas for many years prior to that, recorded on numerous CD projects and appeared on The History Channel, The Nashville Network and The Fox Network as part of the Grammy-nominated "Music of the Wild West" project.
Their show is between 45 minutes - one hour in length. A love offering is taken during the performance.
