  • Hesston women stop Southeast

  • HESSTON — Up by as many as 13 in the second half, the Hesston College women's basketball team held on for a 69-64 win over Southeast (Neb.) Community College Tuesday at Yost Center.
    Hesston avenges a 22-point loss from earlier this season.
    The Larks trailed by as many as six early, but came back to lead by as many as seven. Hesston led 28-27 at the half.
    The Larks made an 8-0 run to open the second half. Hesston led 46-33 on one of two Bryana Young free throws with 13:10 remaining.
    Southeast climbed within two on a Makayla McDaniel layup with 1:47 remaining. The Larks got back up by eight in the final minute of play.
    Hesston, 4-6, was led by Nikkita Lester and Nikki Lowry with 14 points each.
    For Southeast, 8-3, Brenna Grant scored 20 points, followed by Toniesha Rainey with 14 points and McDaniel with 11.
    Hesston hosts Central (Neb.) Community College and the Tabor junior varsity at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday for the Hesston Thanksgiving Classic. Northern Oklahoma-Enid also will compete.
