  • Meet the Railers
    set for Monday
    The Newton High School and middle school boys' basketball teams will hold a Meet the Railers night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ravenscroft Gym.
    All of the Newton boys' basketball teams from seventh-grade to varsity will scrimmage for one quarter. The event is open to the public.
    Butler falls
    in semifinals
    MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Butler Community College women's soccer team fell to Navarro (Texas) College 1-0 in overtime Friday in the semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I National Championships at Eastern Florida State College.
    Stats for the game were not posted at game time.
    Newton High School grad Kelsi Langley was the starting goalkeeper for Butler this season. Langley was a freshman at Butler.
    Butler ends the season 21-3-2. The loss snapped a string of 16 games without a loss for the Grizzlies.
    Thunder falls
    to Rapid City
    WICHITA — The early season struggles for the Wichita Thunder continue with a 4-1 loss to the Rapid City Rush Friday in Central Hockey League play at Intrust Bank Arena.
    Justin Faryna, Scott Brannon, Konrad Reeder and Kyle Stroh each scored a goal for Rapid City, which led 3-0 after two periods. Brannon added an assist. Five other Rush players added an assist each.
    Tim Boron had 39 saves for Rapid City. Wichita's Torrie Jung had 30 saves in the loss.
    Jesse Dudas scored for Wichita. Nick Parland and Jon Booras each added an assist.
    Rapid City leads the CHL at 11-1-0. Wichita drops to 2-9-4. The two teams meet again at 7:05 p.m. today at Intrust Bank Arena.
