  • BC women fall to Fort Hays State

  • HAYS — The Bethel College women's basketball team held NCAA Division II Fort Hays State to its lowest offensive output of the season.
    Unfortunately for the Threshers, the Tigers — which received votes in the NCAA Division II polls — did the same thing to Bethel, claiming a 78-38 win Tuesday at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays.
    Fort Hays State improves to 3-0. The game counts as an exhibition for the Threshers, 2-2.
    Bethel did take a 2-0 lead in the game and held the Tigers to eight points in the first seven minute of the game. Leading 11-10, the Tigers made a 13-0 run. Fort Hays State led 46-17 at the half.
    The Tigers pulled away at a slower rate in the second half.
    Fort Hays State was led by Katelyn Edwards with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Taylor Chandler and Tera Ingalsbe each scored 13 points.
    Newton High grad Kate Lehman scored nine points with 10 rebounds and six blocked shots. For the season, Lehman has 27 points, 31 rebounds and 20 blocked shots in three games.
    Bethel was led by Jessica Ebenkamp with 10 points and eight rebounds.
    Bethel had 32 turnovers in the game. The Threshers did stay close on the boards against a much bigger Tiger team, getting outrebounded 46-43.
    Bethel plays NAIA Division I Northern New Mexico at 6 p.m. Friday in the McPherson Classic. The Eagles are 2-2. Bethel plays AIB College at 6 p.m. Saturday in the classic.
