  • The Olson Scholarship Board is recently announced its newest member, Barbara Bunting. Bunting, a member of the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra Guild, represents the Newton USD 373 Board of Education.
    Olson Board members include Dr. Erwin & Gertrude Olson, Olson Board Founders, Vice President and Treasurer; Dr. Ruthann Dirks, President, Olson Board; Iva Reber; Margie Wiens, Past President, NMKSO; Dr. Stephen Cranston, Newton Mid-KS Symphony Board Past President; Joey Menninga, Newton High School Orchestra; Kay Larson,, Secretary, Olson Board; Janet Ediger, Music Director, Treble Clef; Rebecca Schloneger, Bethel College Academy of Performing Arts: Dr. Bonnie Tandoc, President, Newton Mid-KS Symphony; Jill Gatz, Newton Mid-KS Symphony Orchestra Manager; Susan Koehn, Newton Arts Commission President, Carriage Factory; Cathy Penner, Past President, Newton High School Arts Assoc.; Nancy Johnson, Bethel College Music Faculty; Donna & Keith Woolery Newton High School Band and Choirs; and Kay Self.
    The Olson Scholarship Fund, in its 46th year, grants music scholarships to students in grades 9-12 at Newton High School. The Scholarship Committee will announce the current scholarship recipients later this month.
    Funding for the fund occurs entirely through private donations. The group hosts two annual events: the Holiday House Tour and Jazz Concert. This year’s House Tour will be December 8. The Jazz Concert is scheduled for March 8, 2014.
