Newton Area Chamber of Commerce employees were out decorating downtown Tuesday, getting ready for the annual "Taste of Christmas."
"We are trying to draw people here to to do their Christmas shopping," said Pam Stevens, director of the chamber. "This is a downtown promotion event, but we invite anyone who wants to participate to do so."
During the Taste of Christmas, which runs from Thursday to Monday, participants pick up a "puzzle" at one of 22 participating businesses. When they visit each business, they get a puzzle piece. Completed puzzles can be turned into the Newton Area Chamber of Commerce for a prize drawing.
At the Nov. 15 chamber breakfast prize winners will be drawn. Prizes for the event will total more than $500.
