  • McPHERSON — The Bethel College women's basketball team opened the season Friday with a 67-44 win over Central Christian College in McPherson.
    The Threshers jumped out on a 16-4 run and led 29-18 at the half. Bethel put things away with a 15-2 run to start the second half.
    Both teams struggled from the field. Bethel was 21 of 66 for 31.8 percent, while the 1-1 Tigers were 15 of 53 for 28.3 percent. Bethel held a 21-12 advantage from the free throw line, shooting just six more attempts.
    Sophomore Lauren Ulrich led the Threshers with 16 points, followed by Samantha Wilkerson with 14 and April Harpe with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
    Quamisha Spence led Central with eight points, followed by Libby Regier with seven.
    Bethel hosts NAIA Division I Benedictine at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
