Bethel finally got back in the end zone with 29.4 seconds remaining when Darris Hughes scored from one yard out. Holder and back-up quarterback John DeBus bobbled the snap on the PAT kick, but hit Raul Silva for the two-point conversion.
Bethel falls to 1-6, 0-5 in KCAC play. Bethel plays at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Kansas Wesleyan.
"We're going to have to stop their run too," Mathis said. "These guys ran all over us. We're going to have to play better with the D line and linebackers. Even when we had them outmatched up front, we didn't stop them. When the ball splits through the middle like that, we're not squeezing the gap. The good thing is, this is kind of like a start-up program. The guys will have to push through and get better day-by-day. These guys are resilient."
