  • NHS teacher presents at conference

  • Melinda Rangel from Newton High was recently among the presenters at the 63rd annual Kansas Business Educator Association Conference in Wichita.
    Rangel was a featured speaker at an evening session entitled "Using LiveBinders in your Business Class" and again on Friday with a presentation on "Starting a National Business Honor Society Chapter in Your School."
    Newton High School is only one of two schools in the state of Kansas that offer an honor society for business students. Rangel also submitted a lesson plan entry in the Share-An-Idea contest. Her lesson plan on LiveBinders was awarded first place in the competition.
    The conference which offered a variety of interactive sessions covering Dynamic worksheets on iPads, Flipping Your Classroom, Windows 8, video game design, Moodle and LiveBinders. On Friday, Kirk Haskins from the Department of Education gave an update on Career and Technical Education in Kansas. A variety of concurrent sessions offered were social media, game design, free tips & tricks, common core, business law, project based learning, running a student business, collaborative lesson sharing, and many more. Exhibits and networking opportunities were also a large part of the conference. The conference ended with a luncheon, awards, and business meeting.
