EL DORADO — The Newton High School girls' cross country team finished ninth and the Railer boys finished 12th Saturday at the 19-team El Dorado Invitational at El Dorado State Park.

St. Thomas Aquinas won the girls' title with 34 points, followed by Garden City at 71, Bishop Carroll at 79, Junction City at 160 and Winfield at 170. Newton had 249 points.

Wichita North won the boys' title with 34 points, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas at 95, Winfield at 108, Kapaun-Mt. Carmel at 115 and Wichita Southeast at 185. Newton scored 298 points.

Alex Miller of Garden City won the girls' race in 14:44.91 (4,000 meters), followed by teammate Kayla Doll in 14:53.91 and Kelsi Andrews of Kapaun-Mt. Carmel in third at 14:54.62.

Newton was led by Ashlyn Glann in 25th in 15:54.44, followed by Sadie Winter in 33rd at 16:12.22, Kasey Stucky in 42nd in 16:36.06, Elyse Bergquist in 71st in 17:25.96, Ashley Akers in 85th in 18:14.34, Ashlynn Hamm in 87th in 18:25.53 and Alexa Anderson in 88th in 18:25.96.

There were 107 runners in the girls' race.

Winfield took the top two spots in the boys' race. Riley Osen won in 15:33.75 (5,000 meters), followed by Josh Hanna in second in 15:47.78. Bryan Zack of St. Thomas Aquinas was third in 15:56.56.

For the Railer boys, Thomas Kelso finished 34th in 16:58.46, Samuel Blaufuss finished 46th in 17:23.24, Robert Loeffler finished 47th in 17:23.62, Jacey Friesen finished 86th in 18:08.23, Jason Granados finished 102nd in 18:58.41, Jack Polley finished 113th in 19:12.62 and Caleb Nelson finished 116th in 19:29.69.

There were 120 runners in the boys' race.

Newton competes at the Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I Championships Saturday at Lake Afton.
