  • Saturday, September 21st, the dogs and cats at Caring Hands Humane Society had a lot of visitors dressed in leather and jeans. We held the Third Annual Ride for the Dogs Poker Run. More than 80 people participated and volunteered at the event.
The Harvey County Sherrif’s Department led the procession of motorcycles and cars out of Harvey County to the south and from there riders proceeded to Alefs Harley Davidson, Bentley Corner Bar and Grill, Halstead Senior Center, Dan’s Cycle and finally to the American Legion Wayne G Austin Post #2. Riders threw darts at a board covered with playing cards to get their poker hands. The winning hand was a flush draw. The second, third place and worst hand won prizes as well. A trip for two to a NASCAR Race anywhere in the country, sponsored by Mike’s Rent to Own in Newton, was on the line if a player scored a royal flush.
We also held a raffle and live auction. The highlight of the day was the weather. Every rider was treated to mild weather and minimal wind. We want to thank everyone that was involved with our event this year. Below our sponsors, partners and volunteers are listed in alphabetical order:
