  • Explorers start fund-raiser

    • email print
  • The Kurt Ford Explorer troop of Newton will once again offer holiday decorations for sale as a fund-raiser for the group.
Orders are currently being taken both in person and online.
This year evergreen arrangements may be ordered online at http://holidaydeco.com/hvso/melissa/.
"Those prices are a little higher, but they are shipped directly to where you designate and you can use a credit card," said Melissa Flavin, director of the fund-raiser.
The money raised will go toward additional training opportunities for the Explorers, as well as funding the Kurt Ford Memorial Scholarships.
Ford, a Harvey County sheriff’s deputy, was killed in the line of duty in 2005.
The scholarships are given each year to graduating seniors attending colleges with majors in law enforcement/criminal justice.
The Explorers is a group for youths ages 14 through 20 with an emphasis on careers in law enforcement.
For more information or to order contact Flavin at the Harvey County Sheriff's Department, 284-6960.
