    place at tourney
    GOESSEL — The Halstead High School volleyball team took second and Goessel High School took third Saturday at the Canton-Galva Invitational at Goessel.
    In pool play for Halstead, the Dragons beat Hutchinson Central Christian 25-6, 25-8; Canton-Galva 25-15, 25-12; and lost to Hillsboro 25-13, 25-9.
    In the semifinals, Halstead downed Goessel 25-22, 23-25, 25-17. In the championship match, Halstead again lost to Hillsboro, the top-ranked team in Class 2A, 25-22, 25-8.
    In pool play, Goessel downed Little River 25-14, 25-18; Solomon 25-21, 25-14; and Sunrise Christian Academy 25-17, 25-16.
    After the semifinal loss, Goessel downed Sunrise Christian Academy 25-15, 21-25, 25-19.
    Halstead, 21-9, plays at 5 p.m. today at Hesston in a Central Kansas League double-dual. Goessel, 20-7, hosts Little River and Wakefield at 4 p.m. today.

    Burrton tourney
    BURRTON — Cheney High School won the Burrton Invitational Saturday.
    Cheney stopped Sterling 25-16, 25-21 in the finals. Inman downed Cunningham 25-19, 26-24 in the third-place match.
    Berean Academy finished 1-2 in pool play. Burrton finished 0-3.
    Berean Academy hosts a meet at 4 p.m. today. Burrton travels to Attica Oct. 15 for a meet with Fairfield.

    fall in three
    The Bethel College volleyball team fell to Kansas Wesleyan Saturday in three sets at Thresher Gym in KCAC play.
    The Coyotes won 25-14, 25-23, 25-19.
    For Kansas Wesleyan, Breanne Schultz had 13 kills, followed by Lauren Chamness with 12. Taylor Elkington had 38 assists. Marlene Yang had 14 digs, followed by Allie Miller with 13. Taylor Klovar downed four total blocks, followed by Schultz and Miller with three each.
    For Bethel, Tori Pickens had nine kills, followed by Claire McStravick with eight. Breetta Moe had 25 assists and three aces. Maggie Hans had 21 digs. Jennifer Van Horn downed four total blocks, followed by Pickens and Jordan Gray with three each.
    Kansas Wesleyan improves to 16-9, 8-0 in conference play. Bethel falls to 9-11, 2-6 in KCAC play. Bethel ends the first half of conference play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home against Friends.
    Thresher men
    drop KCAC opener
    McPHERSON — The Bethel College men's soccer team opened KCAC play Saturday with a 4-1 loss to McPherson College in McPherson Stadium.
    McPherson led 3-0 at the half.
    Johnny Nuthall scored two goals with an assist for McPherson, 4-5 overall. Oscar Cortez scored a goal with an assist. Tito Ruiz added a goal. Kevin Aka and Yosafat Figueroa each had an assist.
    Tavis King scored for Bethel with an assist from Allan Segura.
    Bethel was outshot 30-10. Casey Budd had 11 saves in goal for the Threshers. Taylor Parrott had three saves for McPherson.
    Bethel falls to 3-6-1 and plays at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ottawa.

    McPHERSON — The Bethel College women's soccer team opened KCAC play with a 1-0 loss to McPherson College Saturday in McPherson.
    McPherson scored in the 75th minute on a goal by Jessica Dominguez with an assist from Amy Stockton.
    Bethel was outshot 28-5. Madison Wiles had 11 saves in goal for the Threshers. Caitlyn Blagrave had three saves for McPherson, 2-6-1.
    Bethel falls to 1-7-1 and plays at 5 p.m. Saturday at Ottawa.
    Moundridge tops
    Remington
    WHITEWATER — The Moundridge Wildcat football team edged Heart of America League rival Remington 46-6 Friday in rural Whitewater.
    Moundridge led 26-0 at the half.
    DeShawn Pfeiff led the Wildcats, rushing for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Javin Foth rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Colby Badman rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown. Kyle Stucky hit a touchdown pass to Hunter Enyart.
