  • Some places call it Homecoming, Bethel College calls it Fall Festival, and the 43rd annual celebration will be all day Saturday.
    Three highlights
    1. Theater
The comedy "You Can’t Take It with You" by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, with the first performances at 7:30 p.m. tonight, 3:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, all in Krehbiel Auditorium. Tickets are on sale at Thresher Bookstore in Schultz Student Center during regular business hours or one hour before each performance, subject to availability, in the Fine Arts Center ticket office.
    2. Festival fun
Fall Festival Fair Day on the Bethel campus, food and craft booths as well as exhibits by student, alumni and local organizations open beginning at 9 a.m. on and around the Green.
The Newton Community Children’s Choir will sing in the Entertainment Tent on the Green at 11:10 a.m., immediately following the auction of a wheat marquetry picture of the Administration Building, created by Marie and Martha Voth of North Newton. Wade Brubacher will be the auctioneer, starting at 11:04 a.m. in the Entertainment Tent.
Also in the Entertainment Tent: The Book of JEBB, a local gospel/bluegrass group (9:15 a.m.); music by members of Iglesia Menonita Casa Betania, Newton, and the immigrant rights group Mi Projimo (10 a.m.); the Bethel a cappella groups Woven and Open Road (11:30 a.m.); and Jazzfest, featuring local high school and Bethel College musicians, beginning at noon.
    3. College football
The Bethel College football team faces the University of St. Mary at 7 p.m. Bethel student-athletes will be recognized at 6:30 p.m., right before game, on Joe W. Goering Field.
    If you go
    When: All day Saturday.
Where: The Bethel College Campus, North Newton.
How much: Play tickets are as listed, and there is admission for the football game. The festival as a whole, however, no longer charges a fee — the Fall Festival buttons are being retired. "Instead, we invite you to spend a little extra to support the many groups raising money at Taste of Newton and the Fall Fest fair," said Fall Festival organizer Dave Linscheid, Bethel director of alumni relations.
