WICHITA — The Newton High School girls' tennis team claimed a doubles title Tuesday at the Wichita Collegiate Invitational.
Team scores were not reported at deadline.
Newton was led by the first doubles team of Hannah Carlgren and Serena Wong, who finished 3-0. Carlgren and Wong defeated Wellington 8-6 in the finals.
"Very proud of these two getting their first victory of the season today," Newton coach Nick Sisson said. "They have won seven of their last eight matches and are getting better every meet."
The team of Kate Joliff and Stephanie Brown finished 2-1 to take fifth at second singles.
Erin Graber was sixth at first singles, finishing 1-2. Susannah Epp finished 1-2 at second singles for fourth.
"The girls all put forth a great effort today," Sisson said. "Very proud of their progress."
Newton competes Thursday at Winfield.
