The Bethel College women's soccer team was pinned in its end most of the game, falling to Mid-America Christian 1-0 Tuesday in non-conference play at Joe W. Goering Field.

Bethel was outshot 31-5. Madison Wiles had 18 saves in the loss.

"We were on defense for the entire game," Bethel coach Anthony Turini said. "Madison had a great game in goal. They had almost 20 shots on goal. We're getting better. We have a lot of freshmen out there. They're getting better. We're a lot more athletic than we were last year. We're getting the ball forward more. We didn't shoot the ball tonight. We need to do a better job of that when we do create chances. This is still a good game to prepare us for conference play."

Kenady Maynard and Kaitlyn Whitten each played a half in goal for MACU, 4-1. Maynard started and was credited with the win. Each had a save.

Bethel gave up a goal on a one-versus-goal breakaway in the third minute of play by Chelsea Swisher. Mid-American held possession for most of the first half. Bethel made a couple runs, but never seriously threatened the Evangels' defense.

Bethel was outshot 14-2 in the first half.

Bethel had a chance in the 78th minute on a corner kick that went just wide of the upright. Mid-America missed several scoring chances in the second half.

"We get chances, we just don't capitalize on them," Turini said. "We have a lot of young kids up front, and they are still getting used to the difference between the high school game and the college game."

Bethel falls to 1-6 and ends non-conference play at 5 p.m. Saturday at home against 3-6 York.

"From what I've seen of their scores against conference teams, it should be a good game," Turini said. "We should be able to play a lot more on offense."
