  • The Bethel College football team got an extra week of work following a season-opening 41-24 win over Haskell Indian Nations University.
The Threshers now face 0-1 Central Methodist at 7 p.m. Saturday at Joe W. Goering Field in the first Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference-Heart of America Athletic Conference Challenge Series.
The series matches the two 10-team NAIA conferences by order of their 2012 finishes. Bethel was 10th in the KCAC last season, while Central Methodist — after forfeiting a pair of wins — finished 10th in the HAAC.
The Eagles opened the season with a 42-16 loss to second-year Lindenwood-Belleville, the sister school of a former HAAC member that recently moved into the NCAA Division II ranks.
The loss is the 13th straight for the Eagles, the seventh straight on the field.
Against Lindenwood-Belleville, CMU was down just 12-10 at the half, but gave up 30 points in the second half.
The Eagles were led by quarterback Kaleb Borghardt, who hit 17 of 29 passes for 202 yards with two interceptions. Paul Stevens had six catches for 86 yards. Maucie Coon had 12 carries for 50 yards.
On defense for the Eagles, Skyler Jameson had nine total taclkes, seven solo. Ryan Restemayer and Collin Teal each had eight.
Central Methodist gave up 321 yards on the ground and 97 through the air, while generating 223 passing yards and 139 rushing yards. CMU gave up three turnovers, while not forcing any.
The Bethel defense gave up 266 rushing yards and 191 passing yards. The Thresher offense rushed for 189 yards and passed for 232 yards. Bethel gave up two turnovers and forced four.
Bo Pratt passed for 232 yards and four touchdowns to lead Bethel. Stephen Scott rushed for 149 yards and a score. Tommy Alexander had 123 receiving yards and a score.
Kipp Credeur led the defense with 15 total tackles, followed by Taylor Morris with 13, Leland Brown and Josh Kaufman with 11 each.
