AUGUSTA — The Bethel College women's cross country team opened the season with a fourth-place finish in the college division of the Wichita State J.K. Gold Classic at the RAFT Golf Course in Augusta.

Emporia State won the meet with 33 points, followed by Tabor at 54, Butler Community College at 64, Bethel at 86 and Cloud County Community College at 118.

The Bethel men didn't have enough runners for a team score.

Bethel was led by Katlyn Fatten, who placed fourth in 16:08.07 (4,000-meters), followed by Regina Hafner in 15th in 17:29.69, Katherine Fry in 26th in 19:26.96, Olivia Goering in 27th in 19:28.16, Natalie Unruh in 30th in 20:43.77, Grace Bradfield in 33rd in 22:12.32 and Rachel Evans in 35th in 26:20.35.

For the Bethel men, Laird Goertzen was 29th in 23:50.50 (6,000-meters), Philip Alcorn was 36th in 24:08.90, Aaron Topham was 24:31.60 and Joseph Kondziola was 49th in 33:51.00.

Bethel competes Sept. 21 at the University of Nebraska Invitational.
