  • 1. Three days of free fun
The Air Capital Eagles, an aerobatic group based in Wichita, will be hosting a competition at the Newton City/County Airport today through Sunday. The public is invited to watch the ACES pilots attempt loops, spins, stalls and other stunts during this free event. About 20 to 25 aircraft are expected at the event, and pilots will be coming from all across the Midwest, including Texas, Illinois and Iowa.
    2. Catch the action
Four judges will be observing the pilots this weekend as they guide their planes through different patterns. Flights were scheduled to begin at noon today and will continue Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The competition will help prepare the ACES group for the 27th FAI World Aerobatic Championships Oct. 9-20 in Sherman/Denison, Texas.
    3. Around the world
Can't make it to the air show this weekend? You'll also have a chance to watch international stunt pilots in action. The French national team will be visiting the Newton City/County Airport Sept. 21-Oct. 4 to practice before going to the national competition in Texas.
