LINCOLN, Neb. — The Wichita Wingnuts head down the home stretch of the American Association season with an 8-4 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs Tuesday at Haymaker Park in Lincoln.

Wichita scored three runs in the second inning and three more in the fifth to put the game in hand.

Anthony Capra, 7-2, struck out 11 batters in six innings for the win. Capra gave up two earned runs on three hits with two walks. Junior Guerra, Daniel Bennett and Andrew Aizenstadt finished out for the Wingnuts.

Moises Melendez, 3-6, took the loss for Lincoln, allowing five earned runs on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Ryan Khoury and Cole Armstrong each went two for four hitting with two RBIs each. Armstrong hit a home run. Brent Clevlen went two for four with a home run and an RBI. C.J. Ziegler, who is in a tight race for the AA home run crown, hit his 30th of the season. Jake Kahaulelio went two for six with an RBI. Jared McDonald added an RBI. John Rodriguez went three for five.

For Lincoln, Ian Gac went three for four with two home runs and three RBIs.

Wichita, 63-31, has a four-game lead over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks for the best record in the league and home field advantage in the playoffs. Both teams have six games to play.

Lincoln falls to 48-46, losing four straight. Lincoln is six games behind Gary SouthShore for the wild card playoff spot.
