STERLING — The Bethel College volleyball team opened the season with a 2-2 finish Friday and Saturday at the Sterling Invitational.

Bethel opened with a 3-1 win over Southwestern Christian, 26-24, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18; and a 3-1 win over Haskell Indian Nations University, 21-25, 25-14, 25-14, 25-13. The wins were the first for BC coach John Marble.

Saturday, Bethel lost to Johnson and Wales-Denver 3-1, 25-21, 23-25, 25-17, 25-15. Bethel ended the tournament with a 3-2 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan, 22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 21-25, 15-11.

Bethel's stats were not reported.

For Haskell, Tiffany Runs Through had eight kills, followed by Aspen Sheperd with six. Runs Through and Alice Hubbell each had 14 digs.

For Johnson and Wales, Danica Lawrence had 14 kills, followed by Lizzie Michalski with 10. Brandi Gieser had 29 assists. Veronica Gibbs had 15 digs and three aces.

Bethel's home opener is at 7 p.m. Friday against Langston.
