  • Halstead Chamber to host banquet
    The Halstead Chamber of Commerce banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at Scout Park. Unkle Tom's barbecue will cater the event. Cost is $10. Speaker will be Cory Harrington.
    There also will be recognition of businesses for anniversaries: Crossroads Church, five years; Golden Harvest, 10 years; and Main Street Interiors, 20 years.

    Membership forms have been mailed to members. Pay your membership by the night of the banquet for a chance to win chamber bucks.
    Deadline for Youth Fall Sports
    The Youth Fall Sports registration deadline for Flag Football, Outdoor Soccer and Volleyball is approaching at the Newton Recreation Commission, 415 N. Poplar.
    To avoid late fees, participants will need to register before Aug. 26. Families that receive assistance on the school's reduced lunch program should bring in a copy of their approved application from the school to participate in the "Everyone Should Play" scholarship program. Those that qualify for the scholarship program may participate at a 50 percent reduced rate.

    Chamber ribbon cutting for BCAPA
    On Thursday, Aug. 15, the Newton Chamber has scheduled a ribbon cutting for the Bethel College Academy of Performing Arts.
    It will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating their new space, then attendees will be invited inside for refreshments and tours of the new facilities.
