In reference to a recent letter to the editor regarding Newton Young Professionals and what we do, below is some basic information about the group.
Since 2008, Newton Young Professionals has been working to provide young people in Newton opportunities to grow personally and professionally, network with their peers and give back to the community. The vision of Newton Young Professionals is personally and professionally connected young professionals involved in leadership roles for the benefit of the community.
Membership is open to anyone age 21 to about 39, who lives, socializes or does business in the Newton area. NYP is a committee of the Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, but does have its own set of officers. Officer elections are held at our annual meeting in August, and all dues-paying members are encouraged to vote.
NYP has no political affiliation, but we do encourage our members to be more involved in the community, take on leadership roles and make their voices heard.
Our monthly Lunch-N-Learns feature speakers from the business community, nonprofits and local government on educational topics relevant to young professionals. Businesses or individuals who are interested in sponsoring a lunch or speaker are welcome to contact NYP about scheduling a possible Lunch-N-Learn.
If you are curious about NYP or thinking about joining, please feel free to contact me at info@newtonyp.org or join us at our next Lunch-N-Learn at noon Thursday, Sept. 12 at Norm's Coffee Bar.
