A semi versus car accident at the intersection of U.S. 50 and 281 highways early Wednesday morning sent one person to the hospital.
A Hays woman was air-lifted to a Wichita hospital after a semi versus car accident at the intersection of U.S. 50 and 281 highways at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Barbara Roberts, 72, of Hays was southbound on U.S. 281 when a semi truck and trailer that was eastbound on U.S. 50 struck her 2002 Lincoln Continental passenger car.
According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, Roberts stopped at the stop sign, but then proceeded to cross the intersection into the path of a 2003 Kenworth driven by Gloria Mercado, 30, Dodge City.
The semi struck the passenger side of the Ford passenger car sending it into the north ditch along U.S. 50 where it came to rest on the roof taking out two road signs.
The semi went off the road on the south side taking out a road sign and burrowing into the soft soil before going through a barbed wire fence and coming to rest in a farm field.
Roberts was transported to Stafford hospital where she was flown to Via Christie St. Francis in Wichita.
Mercado was not injured in the accident both women were wearing safety restraints at the time of the accident.
