  • Force tops Capahas to advance

  • WICHITA — The San Diego Force is the second and final team of the first week of the 79th National Baseball Congress World Series to advance to Championship Week.
    The Force downed the Cape Girardeau Plaza Tire Capahas in the consolation finals of the first week of the tournament.
    The Force will join the second 16-team Championship Week field, which begins play today. The Force joins the El Dorado Broncos as the two first-week teams to advance.
    San Diego scored in the bottom of the first inning on a Tyler Nordgren sacrifice fly. In the second inning, Alex Scheiwe hit an RBI triple and scored on a Timothy Williams single.
    Cape Girardeau scored with two outs in the top of the fourth inning on a walk and an RBI single for Kody Campbell.
    In the bottom of the seventh, Nordgren hit an RBI single. Tyler Miramontes hit a two-run double.
    Mark Hagedorn hit an RBI double for the Capahas in the top of the eighth. San Diego came back in the bottom of the eighth, scoring a run on a wild pitch.
    Tyler Demar went 5 2-3 innings for San Diego to get the win, striking out five. Brock Heerdt finished the game.
    Williams went three for five hitting for the Force, Scheiwe went two for four. Nick Boggan went two for three.
    For Cape Girardeau, Hagedorn and Campbell each went two for three hitting. Skylar Cobb took the loss for the Capahas.
