  • NPD, Sheriff involved in multi-county chase

    The Newton Police Department and Harvey County Sheriff's Office were involved in a high speed chase ending in Saline County Wednesday morning.
    According to the Harvey County Sheriff's department, a Newton Officer stopped a vehicle at 3 a.m. on I-35 for a tag light violation. When the Officer approached the vehicle, the driver put the car in gear and took off.
    The chase went through Harvey County, McPherson County and eventually ended in Saline County. Speeds reached 120 mph.
    According to the Sheriff's department, even after the suspect vehicle had two tires deflated from the deployment of stop sticks, it continued to run on its rims at speeds of 115 mph. The chase came to a halt on I-70 where the male driver and female passenger fled the vehicle. A male passenger in the car was taken into custody. The male driver was eventually located and arrested, the female is still at large. The vehicle they had been driving was stolen out of Arkansas.
